Read Along

Read Along is a reading pane with an agent beside you. Open one of your notes or a document from your computer, read it as you normally would, and when something needs explaining, highlight it and ask. The agent answers from the text on the page, not from what it half-remembers about the book, so the explanation fits the passage in front of you.

What You Can Open

• Your notes. The left column lists the notes in your shared brain, newest first, with a search box. Click one to read it.
• A file. Choose Open a file for a PDF, Word document, slide deck, spreadsheet, e-book, or plain text file. The file is converted to readable text on your computer and is not stored anywhere new; close the page and it is gone.

Very large files are trimmed to a readable length, and the page tells you when that happened.

Ask About A Passage

Highlight any sentence or paragraph in the reading pane. A small bar appears with two choices:

• Ask about this opens a chat with the passage attached and a ready-to-edit question.
• Explain it does the same with a request for a plain-language explanation and why the passage matters in context.

The passage, the title, and where it came from ride along with your first message, so the agent sees exactly what you saw. The chat shows only what you typed.

Summarize The Whole Thing

Summarize in chat (top right, or Ask about this in the reading header) starts a chat with the whole document attached and a summary request ready to send. Edit the question first if you want something more specific, such as the argument of one chapter or every number mentioned.

Good To Know

• Reading works entirely on your computer. What you send to chat goes to whichever agent and model you have chosen there, the same as any other message.
• Old, dense, or unfamiliar material is where this helps most. Read a little, ask a little, keep going.
• Every answer in chat carries a small note saying whether it rested on the text you sent or on the model’s memory alone. See Agents and Chat for the full list of these signals.
